There’s a very good reason why so many musicians have switched to Studio One from older, more rigid programs. Built on a modern foundation that’s not bogged down by legacy code, Studio One provides an efficient, creative companion from initial inspiration to final master. Its efficient, single-screen interface houses an unlimited number of tracks, intuitive editing tools, advanced virtual instruments, mastering, and video player—you spend your time creating music, not wondering what to click next. The 64-bit double-precision mix engine is state of the art, while the smooth, analog quality of the virtual instruments comes from proprietary techniques that provide much higher controller resolution. That’s why Studio One just plain sounds better.
The reason why Studio One resonates with musicians is simple: PreSonus listens. Many new features in Version 4 are the direct result of user feedback, including AAF import/export so users can bring song data from their old DAW into Studio One. Add the most flexible arranging tools of any music program, full integration with Notion for superior notation, over 20 GB of carefully curated content, analog console emulation, advanced step sequencing, unified hardware control with the FaderPort series of hands-on controllers, and much more—it’s no wonder that Studio One continues to gain new followers every day.

I just switched from Reaper and am seeing RAM being an issue, today I couldn't get Trilian to load because of low RAM and had to close/reopen S1 before I could add Trilian as an instrument. This never happened in Reaper. I am ok with that, just I need some advice on how to bet utilize RAM, and if using any RAM flushing utilities is helpful with S1.
Someone mentioned Cleanmem as a possib;e solution, does anyone have any advice regarding this sort of tool and Studio One? I am on 32 BIT Vista with the maximum 4GB RAM. Thanks a heap, and here is a link to that tool:

Before you go paying for a memory cleaner which may help temporarily, try this one http://www.koshyjohn.com/software/memclean/
Turn off Desktop Composition and this will free up a lot of memory in Vista - its a hog.

Cool, thanks! I already have Aero disabled, but I went ahead and set 'Desktop Composition' to 'off' in compatability mode for S1 just in case, and installed the Memory Cleaner you mentioned. I ran it but there were no dramatic results, something llike 30 MB saved only. But I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the tips!

Well here I am again about RAM. So I am just wondering, Studio One shows 54% RAM used with just itself , Trilian and a synth loaded. My machine has 4 GB RAM, and Windows Resource Monitor says Studio One's working set is only 650 MB. How do I get Studio One to use more of my machine's RAM so it doesn't choke for want of memory? This seems especially a problem with Synthedit plugins, and I'll get 'Invalid access to memory locations' if I add too many synths. This is not a whole lot of synths either, maybe 6 or so and then Studio One chokes. I then have to confirm and close warning messages for all the Synthedit .SEM files associated with the last Synthedit plugin I am trying to load that invokes the error.
To my eyes it looks like S1 has some issue with Synthedit and RAM. In Reaper for example I can load all of these plugins and a lot more and no RAM issues, I still have more than a gig of usable memory that Reaper is happy to let me use. I know Studio One uses some sort of virtual memory block, but it seems this is unnaturally constraining the memory bandwidth of my computer.
Is there any way to adjust RAM use so that this situation goes away? It makes me reluctant to use Studio One frankly, and if I can't resolve this Studio One may play a minor role in my musical life.

Sorry to hear you're having these issues.I don't have any great advice to give unfortunately.
I'm using S1 64bit and only using 64bit plug-ins and everything is fine.
My best guess is that you're onto something with the Synthedit thing,it may well be that there is an issue there.
Anyhow I hope you find a solution.

Yeah when I go 64 bit eventually, it likely won't be that much of an issue as there will be a lot more memory to work with, just right now it is disabling.

So a couple updates:
1. Presonus is on it and yesterday responded in good time to my support ticket request, so that's very nice
2. Someone at KVR mentioned that they used JBridge with Cubase to overcome a similar issue so that Cubase didn't crash when running out of memory (under different circumstances). Previously I only considered JBridge for running 32 bit plugins in a 64 bit OS/host, but he said he ran 32 bit in 32 bit host like that. Anyhow I could at the very least try it, put Trilian for example in JBridge as a separate process, and that would cut down considerably on RAM. I don't know how freeze or other features in Studio One would be affected though, or how satble JBridge is within Studio One, so if anyone has any experience with that I would appreciate it. It would work around Studio One's memory system which at the very least doesn't seem to make full use of my system RAM right now, and I'll need JBridge anyhow when I go to 64 bit OS. I wish it were included in Studio One by default though, that would be nice

You may be aware that each of the FX can eat up memory.. if you have several inserts on each track won't take long til your cpu is overwhelmed.
Render tracks with effects to conserve CPU .. you can still flip back if needs be.
I started a thread way back that listed more ideas for getting more fuel economy from the CPU - perhaps search 'CPU' in the forum.
